Alison Henderson of My Pinkie Promise – finalist in ASB Young Business of the Year

Alison was proud to be a finalist in the national business awards run by the Association of Scottish Businesswomen (ASB). Each year, the ASB recognises women who are high achievers in the business world and those who contribute something back to society.

“A pinkie promise is a binding arrangement between two parties,” explains Alison Henderson, discussing their commitment to clients in her marketing and event management consultancy, My Pinkie Promise.

Alison is committed to supporting companies seeking to expand and impress. “We help small and medium businesses, including start-ups, anywhere in the UK to plan effectively to ensure their marketing, communications and PR work hard to achieve their business goals with minimum spend and maximum effect,” she says.

Alison adds: “My Pinkie Promise offers expert guidance for planning an event of all sizes and types, making sure it runs on time, within budget and has the wow factor. We have developed a free venue finding service, we can arrange transport, accommodation, invitations, delegate handling, venue liaison and negotiate very favourable prices for our clients.

“Although I run the company, oversee the events that we manage as a team, and offer the marketing consultancy service to our clients, I couldn’t do it without the support of the rest of the team, and I really appreciate all their hard work.”

“As a business, we are firm believers in getting out and about in the business community. Being able to support others in business is such an important part of the community, and I have made some good friends & strong business relationships through meeting new business contacts.”

Gaelic Showcase event

We had a very successful Showcase in Caithness last week - one of the exhibitors who goes year in year out said "Thank you very much for creating a fantastic showcase. Its the best ever the Mod had. Keep up the good work and thanks to your son Fraser who was a wee star. See you in Stornoway. x"

We ran a week-long exhibition, several events to showcase the local Food & Drink which comes from Caithness & Sutherland as part of Scotland's Year of Food & Drink and topped the event off by meeting HRH Prince Charles, who, as the Duke of Rothesay, has strong links with the local area. He presented gold medals to 2 of the winning competitors, and visited our Showcase and talked to the organisations during the morning.

The Mod is a family orientated event, and my son was very lucky to spend his school holidays meeting our royal visitor during his trip up north! Many thanks to Graham Hood Photography for the photograph.

We're all looking forward to Stornoway in 2011!

July 2010

We are very proud to have been appointed as event manager for the Gaelic Showcase, part of the Royal National Mod festival, where organisations involved in providing Gaelic language and Gaelic-related products or services; promote their businesses, products and services to the Mod visitors.

Products exhibited regularly at each National Mod include books, tapes, CD's, artworks, photography and crafts.  Exhibitors who regularly participate at the Royal National Mod include Comhairle nan Leabhraichean (Gaelic Books Council), Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, SNH and Clì Gàidhlig.

This year, we have secured an amazing venue: The Dome within Thurso’s North Highland College, and will extend the showcase invitation to Caithness organisations who will promote their products & services, and show the delights on offer within the local region.

Businesses Getting Results workshops from Walker Dunnett, Chartered Accountants

We are pleased to announce that Alison will be presenting to the latest workshop in May 2010, being held by local accountancy firm Walker Dunnett. The subject of the workshop is Business to Business Marketing, and as part of the presentations, we will be covering Marketing & Strategic planning.

We'll be talking about why it is so important to understand what your business is trying to achieve, identify the individual target audiences & what messages are important to them, before creating the marketing plan to drive your communications and make the marketing profitable. Having consistent marketing activity working across all relevant platforms, including social media, is very important.

StartRight: how to communicate your business message effectively through your networking.

Do you ever attend networking events where you see lots of the same people and find it difficult to create that spark of attention? Or do you look at a sea of new faces and wonder how on earth you will say the right thing to sell you & your business and make them want to find out more?

Do you ever wish you could replay your introduction because you said the wrong thing or missed out on the most vital piece of your business?

Do you know why you go to certain events, and do you get to meet the people who you are likely to be able to do business with?

Come along to StartRight, a new event being run by The Communication Exchange & My Pinkie Promise, who are experts in communicating & marketing your business.

During this interactive workshop, you will learn how to feel confident in standing up and introducing yourself & your business in networking and group situations.

You will also learn how to integrate your networking into your wider marketing strategy and ensure that you prepare well, evaluate & follow-up.

The latest session took place on Tuesday 18th May 2010, 5:30pm to 7:30pm at Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce, City Quay, Dundee.

WE ARE CURRENTLY PLANNING THE NEXT SESSION AND WILL PUBLISH THE DATES IN DUE COURSE.

"I certainly felt the workshop helped enormously - the simple techniques that you taught us really worked and we could see them working with each person as they took their turn. I was very impressed and will be using the techniques and recommending the workshop to anyone I can."

Just a sample of the comments we received from a recent attendee at StartRight.

Go4SET programme launched

Tuesday, 8th December saw the launch of the 2009 Dundee Go4SET programme. We delivered the event as Regional Co-ordinator of the scheme, and are working with the schools and companies during 2010 to assist them with delivery of their projects at the Celebration & Assessment event on 12 March 2010.

The Go4SET programme is part of the activities of the Engineering Development Trust (EDT) whose mission is to encourage young people to fulfill their potential through careers in science, engineering and technology (SET). Go4SET is an initiative which links teams of six S2 pupils and their teacher with local companies and universities to offer a 10-week SET experience.

Alison Henderson of My Pinkie Promise says "This year, the teams from schools across Dundee, Angus and Perth will work on a Waste Awareness (Recycling) project and look to develop proposals for reducing the amount of waste collected from their schools. Local companies are invited to support a school team by providing a mentor for the project and including support at both the Project Launch Day in November, and The Celebration and Assessment Day at the end of the project.”

Benefits to companies involved include helping improve industry careers choices, working with future employees, working with local communities, raised profile in the larger community and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) development for employees who can become mentors through the STEM Ambassador scheme.

Anyone who would like to find out how to get involved with the project this year should contact Alison on 07552 167801.
